The maximum contribution to Employment Insurance (EI) by an employer and an employee will decrease in 2006.

The maximum EI earnings for the year 2006 remains at $39,000. Contributors who earn more than the $39,000 ceiling on insurable earnings in the year 2006 are not required to contribute more to EI.

Employee contribution rates for the year 2006 decrease to 1.87% from 1.95% in 2005. The maximum employee contribution to the plan in 2006 is $729.30, down from $760.50 in 2005.

The comparable rate for employers, for the year 2006 decrease to 2.62% from 2.73% in 2005. The maximum employer contribution to the plan in 2006 is $1,021.80, down from $1,064.70 in 2005
